Random Post: The Worst Film Adaptation of a Book

21 Aug

I’m sure I could provide you with a long list as most film adaptations of a book are done badly. And I don’t mean horrible, just not what I expected. Anyhow the one “book to movie” that sticks out to me happens to be Beautiful Creatures. I really enjoyed this book. The world Garcia created was amazing. I read and posted a review of this book on Goodreads back in February. Being true to myself I try to to give spoilers and to bring across what i felt in as little words as possible.

Read from February 08 to 10, 2013
“Mortals. I envy you. You think you can change things. Stop the universe. Undo what was done long before you came along. You are such beautiful creatures.”

I must say for my first book of 2013 I was not disappointed. This book on many levels was refreshing. First, being written in Ethan’s perspective was different. There aren’t many love stories written this way and I felt invigorated. Now it wasn’t just that Ethan is a great guy someone any teen would die to meet and fall in love with, all the characters were well written. The story flowed nicely. The events between the past and the present kept me wanting to read more. And of course once you get started you need to know how it ends.

I was extremely happy when I found out there was going to be a movie. And OMG when I went to see it I wanted to walk out of the theater. EVERYTHING was different. Even some of the main characters. I was shocked.

Now this is just my opinion but I think authors need to hold their ground and not allow so many changes to be made. What do you think? I know that books have loads of details and not everything can be put in a 2 hour film but if you were an author would you allow the screenwriter to butcher your story?

Now I wrote this post because The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones came out today and you know what? I’m scared to see a failure. :/

I enjoyed reading book. There were some slow parts but hopefully the series get’s better. I loved Clary, she was a strong character in all the madness. I didn’t however like how things ended up with her and Jace but there are weirder things. Jace’s character was perfect. He has a troubled soul with all the lies he’s been told and believed but in the end he is shown the truth and feels like he belongs. Adjustments need to be made but a new start lies before them…looking forward to book 2.

What’s your opinion on this matter?
