If I Were You (Inside Out, Book 1) by Lisa Renee Jones
Book DescriptionPublication Date: September 13, 2012 The steamy first installment in the Inside Out erotic romance trilogy by Lisa Renee Jones, in the bestselling tradition of Fifty Shades of Grey. When Sara McMillan finds a stack of journals in a storage unit, she’s shocked and enthralled by the erotic life the writer led. Unable to stop reading, she vicariously lives out dark fantasies through Rebecca, the writer—until the terrifying final entry.
Certain something sinister has happened, Sara sets out to discover the facts, immersing herself in Rebecca’s life. Soon she’s working at the art gallery Rebecca worked at and meeting Rebecca’s friends. Finding herself drawn to two dangerously sexy men, the manager of the gallery and a famed artist, Sara realizes she’s going down the same path Rebecca took. But with the promise of her dark needs being met by a man with confident good looks and a desire for control, she’s not sure anything else matters. Just the burn for more.
I came across this book a few times and to be honest I wasn’t going to read it. The comparison to Fifty Shades of Gray turned me completely off since I didn’t really care for them. There was nothing in the blurb that made me feel I had to read this book however, for a limited time XOXO After Dark had If I Were You available to read for free so I said WTH why not, I mean I’ve read other books by Jones and I love the way she writes besides I like to give everyone a fair chance. So even with my reluctance I started reading with an open mind. Right from the start I was intrigued and when I got to the end I was far from disappointed.
I can see the link between If I Were You and Fifty Shades of Grey though I think this one was executed better. Though Fifty was meant to be an erotic love story, I felt there was more repetition and lack of feeling. If I Were You was different. Jones made these characters captivating and she doesn’t fill the pages with emotionless sex. Boy was there emotions…
So let’s meet the characters:
Rebecca is the author of the erotic journals. She is an art saleswoman who worked for Allure Art Gallery and who is now MIA.
Sara is a high school English teacher. She lives a simple life. Her true passion is Art and she is some what of an expert. She gets her hands on the journals and intrigue gets the best of her. Some of the things she reads make her concerned for Rebecca. Sara has this eerie feeling that something bad has happened to her. So Sara flips her life upside down when she decides she needs to find out what happened to her. Sara lands a job at the art gallery taking over Rebecca’s position. The more she finds out about this woman the stranger things get.
Mark is the boss/owner of Allure Art Gallery. He is rich and handsome. He is all about money and control. He is beyond mysterious and a little creepy.
Chris is YUMMY! Chris is a famous artist. He’s rich, he’s mysterious and he gorgeous. His wealth doesn’t overpower him. He has possessive nature to him but it’s nothing to the Grey extreme. He has a big secret, can you guess what it is?
LOL I’m not going to tell you!!!
I love the story. I loved the connection that Chris and Sara have. They have so much in common. I thought Jones revealed their history at just the right moments. And you can see how good she is for him. That he was trying to be better than he thinks he is; someone worthy of being with her. I must admit I did find myself wondering if he was the man from Rebecca’s journal but I won’t know until I read the rest of this trilogy because you guessed it MAJOR CLIFFHANGER!
This is a book I would definitely recommend!
