New My Review

StarStarStarStar

I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest spoiler free review.

Forgiven beings with Caleb Jacobs, a loner not because he can’t be social but because he fears what people will think of him and his past. Beating himself up for the past 2 years for something he had no control over. He focuses on school, sports and attempts to drink himself to sleep every night. Forgiving himself is something he doesn’t think he deserves.

Angelina Powers is a go getter learning early that she has no one she can fall back on, no one to support her dreams. Growing up with an alcoholic father has been tough but because of him she strives for what she wants.

When Angie and Caleb are paired up together for a history project things get interesting. The attraction between these two is obvious. Caleb fights it as much as he can but “those eyes” haunt him. Angie can’t take his mood swings, one minute he’s all into her the next he’s a jerk. I mean really talk about mixed signals.

The supporting characters, Josh and Emily, were awesome! I just love Emily, that’s a friend I’d want in my corner.

Over all I really enjoyed this story. I am so happy I decided to read it. It was such an awesome story fill with so many emotions. The main characters; Angie and Caleb torture themselves with the past. ‘Shit happen’ and most of the time we have no control over the specifics, are you one to let the past rule and overcome your future? Will you just go through the motions of daily life? OR are you one to say ‘F’ this I’m in control?

These are questions I asked myself when I finished reading Forgiven, Rebecca Brooke did an amazing job. The circumstances each character went through and the detail in which she wrote it was very realistic. This is one I would recommend! 🙂

New excerpt

After she left, I lay down on my bed. I knew I had to get Caleb Jacobs as far away from my thoughts as possible. I only had to deal with him for the next week and a half. He would be easy enough to ignore in class—we’d never interacted before, so why should that have to change? What was it about him that made him so different? I had to come to grips with the fact that he didn’t want me. I realized that it didn’t matter. My mother hadn’t wanted me, and neither did my father. He’d been reminding me of that fact for years. I survived his abuse—I could easily deal with one asshole.

Title: One To Keep

Series: One To Hold #2

Author: Tia Louise

Release Date: January 19, 2014

Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance

New Synopsis

WARNING: Recommended for adult readers (18+) only! Mature themes, strong language, and sexual content…

LOTS of sexual content. Patrick is a naughty boy until he meets Elaine. So there’s the warning–if you keep reading, please relax and have fun! (It’s meant to be fun. *wink*)

There’s a new guy in town…

“Patrick Knight, single, retired Guard-turned private investigator. I was a closer. A deal maker. I looked clients in the eye and told them I’d get their shit done. And I did…”

Patrick doesn’t do “nice.”
At least, not anymore.

After his fiance cheats, he follows up with a one-night stand and a disastrous office hook-up. His business partner (Derek Alexander) sends him to the desert to get his head straight–and clean up the mess.

While there, Patrick meets Elaine, and blistering sparks fly, but she’s not looking for any guy. Or a long-distance relationship.

Patrick’s ready to do anything to keep her, but just when it seems he’s changed her mind, the skeletons from his past life start coming back.

New excerpt

She didn’t push me away or tell me no as I kissed her again with more urgency this time. She turned, and I kissed her cheek.

“I’m too weak when it comes to you,” she murmured as I traced the line of her jaw with my lips. “I should be stronger.”

My kisses moved to her temple and into her hairline. She was so beautiful, and I had her again. “You’re incredibly strong,” I murmured. “You held me off for three weeks when everything in me wanted to come here and take you back.”

I could feel her breathing pick up as I kissed her, and the tension below my waist grew tighter. My mouth returned to hers, and it opened quickly, tongues uniting, her fingers now threading in my hair.

Her lips were so sweet, but I moved my kisses to her chin, dropping down to her neck, and unfastening the buttons on her shirt, kissing every spot of delicate skin that was revealed as it came apart…

New My Review

StarStarStarStar

I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest spoiler free review.

One To Keep was an enjoyable read. We begin with Patrick Knight who relocates to Princeton to take on a position his brother left behind as a private investigator. He believes this is exactly what he needs; a fresh start after finding his fiancé cheating on him. He no longer believes in love, and thinks with his wrong head. And in not thinking properly he finds himself is a sticky situation. Patrick hooks up with 2 women; Kenny a young lady from a tattoo parlor and Star a deranged stalker.

Derek Alexander the other half of Alexander & Knight tries to defuse the situation and sends Patrick to Scottsdale, Arizona for a job. Being in Scottsdale is Patrick’s chance to gain control of the situation he has created and to redeem himself with Derek, which is exactly what he plans to do. However, while there he meets the lovely Elaine Merritt.

There was an instant attraction. Elaine has a beautifuleH soul. He took her sightseeing, to dinner and really just got to know each other. And when its time to say goodbye Patrick isn’t ready to let her go and she isn’t willing to have a long distance relationship. Eventually they fess up and try to work it out. There are more bumps in the road but I like where it all ended up.

I’ve read other reviews about this book and many have said that they connected with Kenny more than Elaine, well I didn’t. Kenny went through a rough time in her past; she lost the love of her life. This just gave them something in common; I did not feel that she was someone I’d want him to end up with. He needs someone strong by his side not someone who was just as lost and broken as he was.

The journey to Patrick and Elaine coming together with all the obstacles they faced in my opinion were well written. Let me also state that I did not read book 1 (though plan to ASAP 😉 ) I love Tia’s writing style and can’t wait to dig into more of her work.

Book Review ~ Remember Love by Riley Rhea

11 Jan

They say you can never go home again. Brenna James is about to finish her final year of college when a visit home could change everything. Fate was pushing her towards her childhood best friend, Tucker, leaving Brenna no other option than to remember memories from a time once forgotten.
Can Tucker slip himself into her heart?

The biggest question is, can Tucker help Brenna remember love?
The book has sexual situations and language intended for ages 18 & up.
New My Review
StarStarStarStar
I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest spoiler free review.

Remember Love was one of the sweetest stories I’ve read in a very long time. This story dripped with pure innocence. And I really enjoyed reading this book.

We begin with Brenna. She is a college student studying to be a history teacher. She’s on her way home for the weekend and she bumps in to Tucker.

“As I’m standing in line, I hear the door open. Naturally I turn to see who it is, I am stunned. I haven’t seen this person in what seems like forever and, oh boy, has he changed.”

Tucker is a childhood friend. He has loved her since the moment he met her. Since bumping into him Brenna can’t help but wonder why they stopped talking all those years before. And the journey to remembering love begins.

In the world we live in these days it’s hard to fathom love at first sight, but while reading this story Rhea made me want to believe it. Not only to believe in the possibility of finding such a precious love but hope that any bumps in the road won’t come between it. That coming together again and being happy is a possibility. Sappy, maybe but what can I say I’m a girl! LOL And hey what can I say not many people get a HEA.

Along with the beautiful love story we have Lexi who is Brenna’s best friend. Lexi is hilarious and she only made the story that much better.

“I guess I interrupted, huh?”

“You know Lexi. I’ve heard of cock block, but you my friend have become a twat block as well.”

Oh and please don’t think this is a G rated book because well…it’s not. But Rhea didn’t allow for the sex scenes to overpower the true story for remembering love!

Overall, very good debut novel!!! I can’t wait to see what else this amazing author has for us. I would recommend this book who wants to read a refreshing, beautiful love story.

Blog Tour Stop ~ Review & Excerpt ~ Side Effects by Julia Bramer

Side Effects Blog Tour

Julia Bramer

 New Synopsis

 September 21, 2013

“Her sweetness seeps into his soul and the ground shifts beneath him again, his primal need for her bubbling and boiling to the surface, and he makes a decision that will change his life forever, sure it’s a side effect of the Vitamin D treatment because he would never have contemplated the drastic move before it.”

The steamy tale continues as Jed and Olivia are forced to flee the country and their relationship heats up and takes an unexpected turn. From Jamaica to Brazil to New York, their journey is packed with surprising twists, dark revelations and more erotic encounters, and Jed’s decadent past tests their love and one secret will remain buried forever.

Strong sexual content.

Goodreads

 New excerpt

Jed waits for her in their bedroom, running his hands through his hair and pacing anxiously.  He has a lot to do and ticks through the list in his head, but when Olivia enters the room, peeking shyly at him with those beguiling green eyes, he is overcome by a primitive desire–an overpowering need–and he wants to fuck her–hard, his cock hardening with anticipation.  He decides the plan can wait, turns on the TV, sets the volume low and approaches her slowly.

“Olivia,” he murmurs, backing her against the wall and sniffing her hair.  “You’re so beautiful…”

Olivia’s pulse races and she locks eyes with him–dark chocolate magic–and her insides tense.

“I want to fuck you,” he whispers, his lips grazing hers.  “Can you be quiet?  Can you be absolutely silent?”

Her brows crease, doubting that’s possible, and he braces his hands on the wall and pins her to it.

“If you moan and groan and grunt, I won’t fuck you,” he warns silkily.

She wriggles against him and protests, “I don’t grunt.”

He snorts and arches a brow, planting a gentle kiss on her nose.  “Okay, you don’t grunt,” he says softly, smiling his rare, dazzling spine-tingling smile.

Olivia trembles and every sinew below her waist aches with want.  She wraps her arms around his neck and her lips seek his, but he pulls back and his dark eyes scorch into her.

“Can you do it, Olivia?  Can you be quiet?” he breathes huskily.

Olivia nods robotically, mesmerized by the wicked gleam in his eyes, and he cups her face, kisses her soundly and grinds the hard bulge beneath his jeans against her.  She suppresses a moan, but as his velvety tongue explores her mouth and his warm hands slip under the robe and burnish her flesh, caressing her breasts and tormenting her nipples, she doesn’t know if she can keep her promise.

  New My Review

StarStarStarStar

I received a copy of this book for my honest spoiler free review.

Side Effects picked up right where The Vitamin D Treatment left off. I definitely felt the need to continue the story given the major cliffhanger in the first installment. This is going to be a hard review to give because there was so much action that I can’t possible tell you what happened without spoiling it.

In the beginning I was completely annoyed with Olivia. She acted selfish and childlike. Then I thought…wait she’s only 21!!She doesn’t know how to act. Add lack of experience to the trauma of losing her parents and home well shit I’d act selfish too!

As in book one the relationship between Oliva and Jed moved very fast and in this on there were no breaks. Oliva Brown becomes Oliva Carson.

Jed is a sweet, sexy, extremely caring man. He thought of only Oliva. Every decision he made was with her in mind. I loved how he stepped up to the plate and wanted to help her raise Ben.

The sex senses in this book were HOT!

I loved how it ended. I loved how a tortured player became a loving family man.

I also liked the writing style, the descriptive manner Bramer wrote kept me intruded and wanting more. Good Job!

Dalton North POV:

This isn’t in the book, Tess has written it just for the blog tour for us.

The throbbing in my head took my mind off the relentless pain in my leg. It had become my sort of twisted way of dealing with the constant agony. Get drunk enough for a skull-pounding hangover and it dulled everything else.

I made a stupid-ass attempt to mask the uneven sounds of my footsteps, but the wooden hallway floor made it pretty damn laughable. I wasn’t even completely sure why it mattered, except that I knew the girl was standing just around the corner in the kitchen. I’d heard her silky laugh twice before I’d even left my bedroom.

She stood in the kitchen helping with breakfast. Long auburn hair cascaded down the back of her sweater and I could see only the side of her face as she smiled sweetly at my dad. I’d been in a desert that was so hot just taking a breath hurt, a place where you learned not to trust even your own shadow, a place that could only be described as hell, and the only way to survive the nightmare of it all was to believe that somewhere else in another place, another time, another dimension angels existed. And now I’d come home and found one standing over the waffle iron in the kitchen.

She looked up as I entered the room and that was all it took. I could not look away. Her thin fingers trembled almost imperceptibly as she tucked her hair behind her ear. I dragged a chair out from the table and sat down hard and watched her. She grew more and more flustered by my scrutiny but I couldn’t stop myself. She was a piece of heaven that had floated in through the darkness and I wanted to watch her. And, even though she nearly bit through her plump, highly kissable bottom lip with agitation . . . it seemed . . . that deep down she wanted me to watch her.

New excerpt

I pulled the cover up to my chin like I’d done as a young girl when I was certain the closet monsters were coming out to get me, but I couldn’t relax enough to sleep. The house was quiet and dark again. I climbed back into my slippers. I peeked out into the hallway and everything was still. I tiptoed to the kitchen hoping a glass of milk would make me sleepy.

I scuttled around the corner, and a gasp stuck in my throat. The refrigerator door was open, and the light pouring out illuminated his broad bare back, showing every line of hard muscle . . . and every small scar. There were many. His pajama pants hung low on his narrow hips, and I stood as quiet as a mouse for a guilty second and stared at his incredible physique.

He still had not heard me, and I wondered if he was still lost in the agony of his bad dream. I tiptoed without a sound, but as I neared he seemed to sense me. He continued to stare into the refrigerator as if he expected something to jump out into his hands.

“I’m sorry if I woke you.”

“Please don’t apologize.” His shoulders tensed as I moved closer to him. Even in front of an open refrigerator, heat rolled off of him in searing waves.

He shut the door but didn’t turn around. He leaned his forehead against the freezer door. I stepped closer. My hand trembled slightly as I reached up and touched him. The muscles of his back tightened and then relaxed. I trailed my fingers over the tiny scars that were splattered across his shoulders. The tiny ridges were hard, and I could feel the pain of each one in my fingertips. I stood on my toes and lowered my mouth to his skin. He sucked in a sharp breath as I pressed my lips to the scars. I kissed him over and over again wanting to absorb the pain that still clung to him physically and mentally. And he let me kiss him. His broad shoulders lifted and fell with each shallow breath as I ran my lips across his marred skin.

New My Review

StarStarStarStar

I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest spoiler free review.

I started and finished this book in 1 day. Even with being sick and drugged up I couldn’t put it down. Private North begins with August (Auggie) Stonefield getting ready for her Christmas vacation with her family. She is excited to have a “normal” holiday. Unfortunately, her mother has other plans and August finds herself signing up for an internship with her favorite professor, professor North.

The last thing on Auggie’s mind is starting a new relationship but things change.

Private North (Dalton) comes into the story at the very beginning yet we don’t know it yet. He is a town hero but he is full of pain emotionally, mentally and physically. He also holds a lot of regret and anger. He beats himself up for the events that took place while at war.

The chemistry between Auggie and Dalton was sizzling! She can’t help but feel a pull to him. She shows him kindness. She shows him that he is NOT broken but whole and beautiful. Dalton on the other hand is extremely attracted to Auggie and he had no problem saying what is on his mind however, he is afraid to get close should she decide to leave him he would fall back into the void.

It’s a touching story. Dalton’s character was to me realistic from the nightmares to the injury to the fear of being alone. There’s scheming going on behind the scenes with Ethan (youngest son) and the professor however, for me that wasn’t even a factor in this book.

Oh and the sex scenes…. “Tell me what to do.” I kissed his neck. “I want you to forget the pain, all of it,” I whispered. I pushed his long hair behind his ear. “I want you to feel only me, touching you, kissing you.” Oliver wrote them well! They did not overpower the story.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a quick yet satisfying read.
