Title: Forgiven
Series: Forgiven #1
Author: Rebecca Brooke
Released: August 10th 2013
What happens when one moment changes the course of your entire life? Do you sit back and accept it, or fight to live the life you choose? Caleb Jacobs has a past that has haunted him for two years. Knowing he can never forgive himself for the events that led to his departure, Caleb chooses to live a quiet life—concentrating on school, sports, and shots. But when he is paired with Angie for a history project he realizes that no matter how much you try to hide from your past, one way or another it will find you.
Angelina Powers knows what she wants from life. Growing up with only an alcoholic father for company, Angie learned early on in life that you can only count on yourself. But that doesn’t stop her wishing for her white knight. She’s confident, happy and focused…until she meets Caleb. So how will she feel when her potential white knight turns out to be more of a black shadow?
I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest spoiler free review.
Forgiven beings with Caleb Jacobs, a loner not because he can’t be social but because he fears what people will think of him and his past. Beating himself up for the past 2 years for something he had no control over. He focuses on school, sports and attempts to drink himself to sleep every night. Forgiving himself is something he doesn’t think he deserves.
Angelina Powers is a go getter learning early that she has no one she can fall back on, no one to support her dreams. Growing up with an alcoholic father has been tough but because of him she strives for what she wants.
When Angie and Caleb are paired up together for a history project things get interesting. The attraction between these two is obvious. Caleb fights it as much as he can but “those eyes” haunt him. Angie can’t take his mood swings, one minute he’s all into her the next he’s a jerk. I mean really talk about mixed signals.
The supporting characters, Josh and Emily, were awesome! I just love Emily, that’s a friend I’d want in my corner.
Over all I really enjoyed this story. I am so happy I decided to read it. It was such an awesome story fill with so many emotions. The main characters; Angie and Caleb torture themselves with the past. ‘Shit happen’ and most of the time we have no control over the specifics, are you one to let the past rule and overcome your future? Will you just go through the motions of daily life? OR are you one to say ‘F’ this I’m in control?
These are questions I asked myself when I finished reading Forgiven, Rebecca Brooke did an amazing job. The circumstances each character went through and the detail in which she wrote it was very realistic. This is one I would recommend! 🙂
After she left, I lay down on my bed. I knew I had to get Caleb Jacobs as far away from my thoughts as possible. I only had to deal with him for the next week and a half. He would be easy enough to ignore in class—we’d never interacted before, so why should that have to change? What was it about him that made him so different? I had to come to grips with the fact that he didn’t want me. I realized that it didn’t matter. My mother hadn’t wanted me, and neither did my father. He’d been reminding me of that fact for years. I survived his abuse—I could easily deal with one asshole.
